On November 1st, beautiful, innocent 10 year old Kayla Gomez was attending services at Bullard First Assembly Church in Bullard Texas. She was last seen waiting for her parents in the lobby. When her parents prepared to leave they could not find her. Frantic and panicked they began looking for her as a nationwide Amber Alert was issued and an exhaustive search begun in hopes of finding her unharmed.

On November 5th, all the hopes of her family and friends were shattered, when her body was found thrown into a well behind a relative’s home. That relative has been placed under arrest for her murder.

Kayla’s family is heartbroken, including her aunt Ofelia Cruz.

My name is David Starns, I live in  Eugene Oregon and work in the building where Ofelia works as a Day Porter. Financial issues made it impossible for Ofelia to take the time away from work, or to afford transportation to attend Kayla’s funeral and she’s unable to send any financial support to her sister in Texas, and that’s why I’m asking for your support for Ofelia.

Ofelia is a wonderful, caring woman who goes out of her way to be kind to everyone she meets. She works diligently in our office building performing the tasks no one else wants to, or is willing to do, and she does it with a big beautiful smile. Ofelia openly shares whatever meager resources she has with anyone she meets. She brings produce and baked goods from her home to share with the people in our office. She goes out of her way to do things for us that you just wouldn’t expect from most people. We all love and care for Ofelia and are asking you to help her by providing funds to send her to Texas to be with her sister and for assisting her family at this very difficult time.

Kayla’s mother and father need help in offsetting the expenses related to her disappearance and funeral expenses. Funeral expenses and the time needed to be away from their jobs quickly depleted any financial resources available to them, so we’re hoping to collect at least $3,000 by December 1st to send Ofelia to her family and to help in meeting their needs during this nightmarish time.

I apologize for putting this to you in this way, but, put yourself in Ofelia’s situation. Imagine that your sister’s daughter has been kidnapped. Imagine that after 4 days of uncertainty and hope you’re told she’s been found dead, her body tossed into a well and you can’t afford to be with your family to mourn the child’s death or to provide any assistance. That’s the situation Ofelia finds herself in.

Please, please help us with whatever you can afford in order to help Ofelia get to her family. It would mean a great deal to all of us. It would mean everything to Ofelia.
