"On Aug. 3, Kayla began to have cold-like symptoms. On Aug 4, she tested positive for COVID. ON Aug 7, she began to have some breathing issues and went to St. John's ER so that her baby could be monitored while she was treated. On Aug 8, the decision was made to take baby Elizabeth early by c-section while they were both doing well. Following the birth, Kayla was moved to the COVID ICU on a ventilator and treated for pneumonia. Elizabeth went to the NICU. She weighed over 6 pounds and was soon breathing on her own. She has continued to make good progress. Kayla had to be taken off the ventilator because of concerns about lung damage on Aug 10. She is currently on an ECMO machine and doing better. Her lungs need time to heal. She was transferred by jet from St. John's to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee on Aug, 11. Her doctor wanted her to be in a hospital where she can receive a transplant if that should become necessary and closer hospitals in St. Louis and Chicago had no available beds. Please pray for Kayla's continued recovery. We are grateful that baby Elizabeth is doing well."
