Thank you for visiting this page and taking the time to read about Kayla’s story. I have started this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister in law Kayla Dawn and brother Ryan to assist in covering her medical expenses.

Kayla is a type 1 diabetic with kidney failure caused by her diabetes. She has been doing daily dialysis since becoming diagnosed over 2 years ago.

Kayla had been on the deceased donor transplant list for over 2 years which would allow her to receive a kidney and pancreas. In July she chose to pursue the living donor route to receive a kidney only. Ryan has recently been deemed a match and is currently going through the process to donate a kidney. He has one more evaluation day at OHSU later this month that will finalize him as the donor. This process will keep him out of work for 1-3 months. Not only will Ryan have his own road to recovery, he will also need to be by Kayla’s side as she travels down her road to recovery. Both procedures will be done at OHSU and require them to temporarily relocate to Portland during the course of treatment.

Kayla’s mom will also be out of work for at least a month as she is now the support person for Kayla, as Ryan cannot be both the support person and the donor. Ryan’s parents and family will now become his own support people through this process.

Currently Kayla is batting every day to stay healthy enough to make it to the point of receiving a kidney. She has been in and out of the hospital and one of the new medications they are trying cost $2,500 a month after insurance.
