Justice for Kayla

Please help the family of Kayla Barfield hire a private investigator to find the people that murdered her.

On February 27th, Kayla was staying in a hotel near capital heights Maryland while she was having renovations done to her home. While Kayla was leaving the parking lot of the hotel a woman approached her with a young infant proclaiming that she had no place to go and that she was trying to escape from a domestic violence situation. My sister Kayla took the woman that we learned went by the name T and her infant child into her hotel room to keep them safe. This was the last night my family spoke with Kayla.

A week went by with no calls or text message responses however we weren't overly concerned as Kayla worked a full-time job and had 2 children to look after. We were notified on March 7th from her job that she had not been to work in a week and they were doing a wellness check. This behavior was not like my sister at all, so that prompted Kayla's family and friends to spring into action and call her phone repeatedly. To our surprise, after many calls the abductors answered Kayla's phone and attempted to hold her for ransom. Once we obtained the information about their location we told them we were in route to bring the requested money. We thought it would be safer to call the DC police department however instead of going to the location they called Kayla's phone to do a wellness check which spooked the abductors and they immediately turned off her phone and she wasn't found until 24 hours later in the back seat of her car.

Kayla was badly beaten, with strangulation marks around her neck, both jaws broken, marks around her wrist, blunt force trauma to the head and her hair ripped from her scalp. When the police arrived on the scene, we were told Kayla verbally told them that she had fallen down the stairs and they have this on body cam footage. When my mother and I arrived to the hospital, the doctor explained to me that she had not been responsive to his knowledge and not communicating verbally. When we asked to receive the body cam footage we were told that because it was an active investigation that information they wouldn't be able to provide it. They also mentioned that because the officer reported her making the declaration of falling down the stairs that they weren't sure that a criminal event took place despite her appearance and condition when she was found.

Unfortunately, we have exhausted every attempt in getting movement on the homicide investigation and we have been dismissed, and neglected by the DC homicide department working on this case. Kayla's murder happened March 11, 2022 and although it has been a full year there has not been a single person called in for questioning or any movement on her case.

Our family feels that our only hope is hiring private investigators to help bring justice for Kayla. I recently spoke out publicly about Kayla's tragic death on TikTok and in 4 days the video has had more than 1.1 million views with people wanting to know how they can help.

With any money that is left over from paying the private investigators, we plan to create a fund where we donateVideo of story to children that have lost their parents tragically in Kayla's honor.
