On June 7, 2020, the life of a young mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend, was cut short by a 28-year-old woman with a recently revoked license from a DUI. The woman was driving drunk in the middle of the day with her two young children, 5 and 6, in the car.
Kaydian Whitley grew up in Jamaica with just her mother and siblings as her father died when she was a young child. She came to Canada to further her education and gain a brighter future. She attended Fanshawe College and earned herself a degree in accounting. In 2012, she and her high school sweetheart welcomed their son. Her son became the light of her life, they were inseparable. You would not see one without the other. With the distance of the relationship being too much, she moved to the USA, so her son could have more of his father in his life. As life was finally settling down, she got two jobs to help build a better future for her family.
Like any other day, she kissed her son and told him she loved him and left out to work. It was just after 4pm while walking along a cross walk, where according to reports, a car with a drunk driver jumped across the median and 3 lanes of traffic. She lost complete control climbing up the curb hitting Kaydian, running into a building, and damaging various other properties. Her body lay on the ground a few feet from the car with out a pulse. After being rushed to hospital she was pronounced dead. Cause of death, internal decapitation. The driver, a 28-year-old woman, was found to have Blood alcohol level of .318 with her two young children in the back seat. The woman had just had her license removed in January for DUI. The driver and her children survived with minor Injuries. Kaydian however was not so lucky, her life - cut short.
Kaydian, like many mothers, was trying to build a better life for her son and family. At only 29 years young, she now leaves behind her son. He loved his mother more than anything in the world. Their love for each other was immense. He now at the tender age of 7, will have to grow up without his mother. She will not be there to see her son graduate, go to college, get married, or see any of her grandchildren.
She also leaves behind a husband, all her family members, particularly her mother who now has to bury her daughter, and her friends that will miss her smile, laughter, and all the positive vibes she brought with her.
We are rising money to help with the cost of transporting her body to its final resting place, in Jamaica, where she will be surrounded by her loved ones. The remainder will go into an educational fund for Kaydian's son.
