Kayden Pederson Medical Expenses

Donation protected
What began as a high fever and a concerned mother has spiraled into an unimaginable situation for the Pederson family of Spearfish, SD.

Kayden, the youngest of 6 children, was taken to a Spearfish, SD clinic with high fever on December 9, 2018. This was the second day of running his fever.   The clinic was extremely concerned with preliminary tests so they called Spearfish Hospital. Kayden's mother took him directly to the hospital.  After more blood work, xrays, and observation of extreme difficulty breathing, Kayden was transported to Rapid City Hospital.  He was put in isolation after being diagnosed with 2 viral infections and bacterial pneumonia.

Three days later on December 12, Kayden was taken to surgery to insert a PICC line and chest tube.  His right lung was collapsed and his chest cavity was filled with fluid.

On December 14,  Dad left to return home from Rapid City to go to work.  Treatment seemed to work, then Kayden  complained of severe pain and his Stats  plummeted.   Kayden was life flighted to the Childrens Hospital in Sioux Falls.  Special surgical, infectious control and PICU teams were there minutes after he landed.  Kayden Asked the doctors to “ please help me”.

Dad traveled to Sioux Falls to be with Kayden and his wife on the 16th of December and four days later, Kayden was in surgery again to undergo a procedure to manually go in and clean infection out of his lung and place a new chest tube.  Kayden seemed to be doing better with small set backs, however he wasn’t taking in much food or drink.

On Christmas Day, Dad made a surprise visit home in time to spend Christmas dinner with the other children and then work his scheduled shifts. Kayden's mother remained by his side in Sioux Falls. Kayden knew he would not be home for Christmas and was able to see his 5 siblings and Grandma through video chats.

By New Years Eve, Kayden had to have a NG (nasal) feeding tube placed due to lack of food intake.

On January 1, 2019, After working his overnight shift and a quick nap, Dad headed back to hospital.  Kayden's  breathing became more labored and tests showed increasing issues in his lung.

The next day, Kayden had his third surgery to place a pigtail tube and new drainage chest tube.

Kayden turns 4 on 1/11 and will likely endure future surgeries on his lung. Once he is stable, Kayden will undergo a surgical placement of a G (gastric) Tube for feeding.

These unforeseen medical and travel expenses are weighing on the shoulders of this incredibly strong family. With our help, they will be able to focus on the well-being and comfort of their youngest son, who is at a Childrens hospital nearly 400 miles away from home.

Please consider donating to the Pederson family and thank you for support and prayers for Kayden's recovery.
