Kaycee’s Sweet 16 Surprise
Donation protected
As I held her and rocked her in the funeral home, I promised Kaycee that I wouldn't ever let the
world forget about her. Little did I know how much keeping that promise would help me through
the hardest times of my life.
I'm Julie, Kaycee's Mom. Kaycee passed away when she was three months old. Her death was attributed to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS. She was a perfectly healthy baby girl that died in her sleep. Sadly, our family never got an explanation for her death as SIDS is a diagnosis of exclusion. The doctors and experts were able to tell us all the things that did not cause her death...but no reason to explain why she died.
What started out as an ordinary September day turned out to be a tragedy that would still be affecting those that love her 16 years later. Our family hasn’t been the same since September 28th, 2006. Her Dad Scott, her two big brothers Mason and Spencer, and her big sister Regan have all found ways to cope with Kaycee's death.
One thing we've found comfort in, is doing nice things for others in Kaycee's honor. One of her sweet brothers once shared that it's helpful to do nice things for others, but he'd "rather have Kaycee here to do the nice things for." While we can all relate to that sentiment and agree that doing kind things for others doesn't diminish the pain that we feel, it does warm our family’s hearts to know there is still good being done in this world all because our sweet Kaycee was here.
So, in honor of Kaycee's 16th birthday on June 28th, we have planned a kindness project that we hope brightens the day of another Sweet 16 birthday girl and makes this bittersweet milestone a little easier for us to get through.
Since Kaycee would be getting her driver's license and hitting the roads this summer, we have set up this campaign to raise money that will be donated to a 16-year-old girl in our community to help with expenses that come along with being a new driver. Depending on how much we raise, we'll be able to help with buying her first car, cover her car insurance for a few months, provide her with gas money, or a combination of some of these things.
We appreciate any donations we may receive and will share updates as we know exactly how we'll be using the money raised.
Thank you to our many friends and family who have supported us through all the years in helping us make a positive difference in Kaycee's memory. We are eternally grateful.
