My name is Carolyn Braaten. I am the mother of Kaycee Taubert. She works at a school district as a SPED para. She serves as the Aquatic Director for the district as well. (She loves her jobs!) She is currently taking college classes, and she is going to be moving on March 1. (No stress, right?)
On Wednesday, February 19, my 37-year-old beautiful daughter suffered a heart attack and by the grace of God, survived. She went by ambulance to United Hospital in St. Paul. We are very thankful for the excellent care she received from everyone at the hospital! We are grateful for all the prayers offered on her behalf!!
An angiogram revealed 90% blockage in two areas, and stents were placed (one was what we commonly call "the widow maker"). She needed to have two tiny arteries not big enough for stents ballooned as well. Thankfully, bypass was not necessary.
Through this process, she found out her blood pressure was extremely high, she has renal stenosis, her glucose was extremely high, she was lacking in magnesium and potassium, and she has PCOS. The doctors called it "the perfect storm." She was hospitalized for four days to try and get control of the issues. She is now on several medications - BP, insulin, blood thinners, etc. - and will need to follow a special diet.
With these significant "life changes," many additional expenses have appeared not covered by insurance. She will be off work for a while, making/traveling to several doctor specialists' appointments/tests to maintain control, cardio rehab, paying for extra medications she cannot live without, more expensive groceries, and now additional moving expenses because she is unable to do as much herself. It is a huge learning curve.
But she remains optimistic and is trying to manage all the changes that will be the "new normal." She is a sweet spirit that has more concern for others than herself. She has always powered through her own aches, pains, losses, ups, and downs. Her focus needs to be on her health right now and not worry about the other things (including a root canal due to a student head-butting her mouth).
If the Lord places it on your heart to help her with prayers or financially during this unexpected turn of events, it would be greatly appreciated!!
