Kaybreeyanna “KayKayStrong” King Road to Recovery
Help Our Beautiful KayKay Fight Her Way Back
My name is Adrian Colson, and I am the proud mother of Kaybreeyanna King, affectionately known as “KayKay.”
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, my family’s world was turned upside down when my beautiful 17-year-old daughter became one of the teenagers shot during the tragic events on Perry Street near Florida A&M University during Homecoming festivities in Tallahassee, Florida.
My baby girl was shot in the back of her head.
As a mother, there are no words to describe the fear, heartbreak, and helplessness of knowing your child has suffered such a devastating injury. One moment, your child is enjoying life, and the next, everything changes.
Today, my daughter faces a long and difficult road to recovery, including additional surgeries, extensive rehabilitation, and ongoing medical care. Our family is holding tightly to our faith, believing in the power of prayer and God’s healing grace.
More Than a Victim — This Is My KayKay
Before this tragedy, Kaybreeyanna was a happy, outgoing, fun-loving young lady with a personality that could brighten anyone’s day.
She loves dancing, making TikTok videos, laughing, spending time with her family and friends, and simply enjoying life. She has always been full of energy, laughter, and personality.
KayKay is loved beyond words by her family, friends, teachers, and classmates.
She is a high school senior who was excited about graduating, walking across that stage, celebrating her accomplishments, and beginning the next chapter of her life.
My daughter has dreams, goals, and a future she was looking forward to.
Instead of enjoying her senior year and making graduation memories, she is now facing a fight that no child should ever have to endure.
My daughter is more than a headline. She is my baby, her siblings’ sister, our family’s joy, and a beautiful young lady whose life matters.
A Mother’s Heartbreaking Reality
I am a single mother of ten children, six of whom are still school-aged.
For years, I have worked hard to raise, protect, and provide for my children. Like so many mothers, I have made sacrifices to make sure they have what they need.
But nothing could have prepared me for this.
Right now, my heart and my attention are with KayKay. She needs me by her side as she faces the challenges of healing and recovery.
However, being there for my daughter means I am currently unable to work, while my responsibilities to my other children have not stopped.
I still have children at home who depend on me for food, shelter, transportation, and everyday necessities.
I am trying to be strong for my daughter in the hospital while also being strong for the children who need me at home.
As a mother, having to worry about finances while my child is fighting to recover is a burden I never imagined carrying.
I cannot do this alone.
KayKay’s Long Road to Recovery
KayKay’s journey to healing is expected to be long, challenging, and filled with many uncertainties.
Because of the severity of her injuries, she will need additional surgeries, specialized medical care, and extensive rehabilitation. Some of her rehabilitation may require treatment at facilities outside of Tallahassee, creating even greater emotional and financial challenges for our family.
Out-of-town treatment will mean additional expenses for transportation, temporary lodging, meals, and other necessities so that I can remain close to my daughter and actively participate in her recovery.
At the same time, I must continue supporting my other children and maintaining our household.
No mother should have to choose between being present for her injured child and being able to provide for the rest of her family.
My goal is to make sure KayKay receives every opportunity for healing and recovery while keeping our family together and supported throughout this difficult journey.
How Your Donations Will Help
We have established an initial fundraising goal of $25,000 to help our family through this difficult journey.
Your generous donations will help with:
* Additional surgeries and medical expenses: Costs associated with KayKay’s ongoing treatment, surgical procedures, medications, and recovery needs.
* Specialized rehabilitation: Inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation, therapies, and other recovery services.
* Out-of-town rehabilitation expenses: Transportation, temporary lodging, meals, and other costs associated with receiving care away from Tallahassee.
* Family travel and support expenses: Helping our family remain present and involved throughout KayKay’s treatment.
* Household and living expenses: Rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, and other necessities for my children at home.
* Lost income: Supporting our household while I am unable to work because of my daughter’s medical needs.
* Unexpected long-term recovery needs: Additional care, medical equipment, and other expenses that may arise.
Every donation will help relieve some of the financial pressure on our family and allow me to focus on what matters most — being there for my daughter while continuing to care for my other children.
We Are Praying to See KayKay Dance Again
If you know KayKay, you know her beautiful spirit.
You know her laughter, her dancing, her TikToks, and the joy she brings to everyone around her.
I want to see my daughter smile again. I want to watch her dance, hear her laughter, and celebrate the milestones she has dreamed about.
I want to see her walk across that graduation stage and experience the beautiful future she deserves.
I know the road ahead will not be easy, but I am holding on to faith, hope, and the love surrounding my baby girl.
This tragedy may have changed our lives, but it will never change how deeply my daughter is loved or how much her future matters.
Please Stand With Our Family
To our family, friends, the Tallahassee community, FAMU family, churches, and everyone whose heart has been touched by this tragedy, I am asking you to please stand with us.
If you are able to donate, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you cannot give financially, please share KayKay’s story and keep her and our entire family in your prayers.
I also ask that you continue praying for all the young people and families affected by this tragedy.
Every prayer, every donation, every share, and every kind word means more than you will ever know.
My KayKay has so much life left to live, so many dreams left to chase, and so many beautiful memories left to make.
Please help me give her the love, care, and support she needs on her road to recovery.
With heartfelt love and gratitude,
Adrian Colson
