A compassionate local rescue posted a picture of a 6mo.old
special needs dog that needed a loving home and we knew right away that we had to have her. On September 25th she came to us all the way from Mississippi with the help of wonderful volunteer drivers. We knew this little girl had special needs but at the time we didn't know the extent of her conditions. Upon coming home we noticed she really struggled, walking on her back legs and tiring easily. We soon realized we had to carry her up and down the stairs and carry her outside. We noticed at the end of each day she yelps when touched. We have learned that this is her bed time and she needs her rest.
We set up an appointment with our trusted veterinarian as soon as possible to see what was really going on. She immediately wanted to take blood work and do a full set of X-ray's. We had to drop her off for the day to be sedated and when we went back to talk to them about her condition we were informed, that what we thought was a birth defect with her right front leg was not. Our vet advised us that her leg was broken at the wrist when she was only just a new puppy and that the injury was never cared for which resulted in a growth deformity. Also, do to the deformity and living and growing in a small cramped cage in the backyard of a "breeder" she was unable to grow normally and started walking on her back knees and not her feet. It was due to these conditions that someone stepped in to rescue her as the owner was going to shoot her. One of the rescue drivers told us in his words, "I would rather spend fifty cents on a bullet then a dime on her." (utterly disgusting).
Despite all that she has been through she is the most forgiving little girl. She gives lots of kisses and tries so hard to get around spreading love wherever she goes.
The vet has strongly urged us to remove her broken leg as it throws her off balance. She also stated that her back knee has very little cartilage and will need more surgery following her leg removal. Right now the focus is removing the leg which we were originally quoted over $5,000. Our vet was kind enough to find a surgeon from out of town to come in and perform the amputation at a lesser cost. She will be able to come in on Monday, November 9th 2020 so we are trying to raise this money within a week as we don't want to to keep our precious girl waiting. We want her to grow and learn to get around as normally as possible.
We are grateful for any donations as she will be an ongoing special care pup most of her life and we want to make sure that its a long, healthy and happy one. Any additional funds we might receive will go to directly to her physical therapy and second sugery.
Thank you so much for your help
