Kawuan Ray, a beloved former Roanoke Catholic student and current senior at Patrick Henry High School, unexpectedly died December 22 from a medical emergency after returning home from a basketball practice.
“I know he was at PH, but he will always be a Celtic for us,” says RCS athletic director Matt Peck in this moving Roanoke Times tribute.
Please join us in helping Kawuan's family during this difficult time as they work to pay for medical and funeral expenses. We have set a $10,000 goal, though all funds above and beyond will go directly to the family.
Watch WFXR tribute.
At Roanoke Catholic, Kawuan was a light in the classroom and hallways. As one former parent commented on the school's Facebook page: "It breaks my heart to hear this. Kawuan was Jonathan’s prayer buddy, who he admired and and looked up to."
He was also must-watch on the football field, basketball court and track. He led the Celtics to two football state championships in 2017 and 2018 and the boys track team to a 2019 state championship.
His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of teaching him, coaching him and calling him a friend. Please be generous with your assistance for his family as they cope with this tragedy.
