Kawena's Fund

This year, like every year for anyone, has brought a lot of ups and downs. Things to celebrate and major obstacles to overcome. As for my sister Kawena she has come face to face with one of the biggest obstacles of her life. Earlier this year, the doctors discovered a major ovarian cyst growing on her ovaries and was told she would have to go through surgery to remove it. During the surgery it became apparent that the cyst was indeed cancerous which unfortunately meant that not only was the cyst to be taken out but the ovaries as well. Taking away her chance of ever being able to conceive a child of her own. Yet of course as the strong sister I have always known her to be she was just happy to have her health and to be alive. Following the surgery, Kawena received chemotherapy to help remove any other cancer cells that may still be in her body. Throughout her chemo she was a fighter, kept a smile on her face and never once let the chemo stop her from living her life. After many weeks of chemo, she received amazing news from the doctors. Tests proved she was cancer free and she would end chemo 2 months earlier then planned. As the weeks passed Kawena started having complications leading to many ER, ICU and hospital stays. After enduring many different tests, scans, blood draws, and ultra sounds the doctors found that the cancer had spread to her abdomen, mainly around the small intestines. Kawena has been in the hospital for over 3 weeks and my brother-in-law Lawrence has remained by her side since day one. At the moment there is no timeline to know when she will be getting out due to the cancer affecting some of her basic functions like eating. With that diagnosis the doctors have decided to start her second round of chemotherapy.

Due to these circumstances, both Kawena and Lawrence have not been working but have been able to make ends meet on their own thus far. They have never asked anyone for help but have countless times given so much of their love and time to help others; without ever asking for anything back. Our families and I all know how difficult this can be and we want to do our part to help. We all love and care for them and want to make sure that their needs are being met physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. They have medical coverage but as we know their medical bills will begin to add up as Kawena will need to spend more time in the hospital. Our hope is that Kawena and Lawrence will not have to worry about their finances during this time, so that they can focus on her getting better.

Kawena is doing everything she can to fight this cancer and heal, so that she can go home. We are asking our family and friends to join us in this battle with your love, prayers, and support. If you can make a donation to Kawena and Lawrence, it would be so greatly appreciated. We understand that money may be tight so we have set a goal of $1 because any help is all we can ask for. If not monetary all we ask is for your continuous prayers. Please continue to lift them both up in your daily prayers. We thank you in advance for your love and care. We will do our best to provide updates of her progress on the gofundme page. Mahalo Nui Loa!
