Katy Needs Your Support

Our hearts are empty but full of hope as we write this.

Today, we are asking for help. It is difficult and uncomfortable to do, but we will do anything for our friends, Rudy and Kathya Puig, and their daughter, Katerina “Katy” Puig.

On Sunday, September 4, Katy Puig and her friends were in a tragic boat accident that not only claimed the life of one of her friends and injured others but also left Katy Puig hospitalized in critical condition.

Upon impact, Katy suffered a head trauma leaving her unconscious at sea. Though her friends’ heroic efforts saved Katy from drowning, she took on water before being rescued by a Good Samaritan. After being airlifted to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, doctors performed emergency brain surgery to remove a large blood clot.

Katy remains unconscious and in critical care. Family, friends, classmates, teachers, coaches and clergy have visited Katy to raise her spirits. Together we have prayed, laughed, cried and sang to motivate Katy at her bedside. But as we all know, Katy is a fighter. We have all seen her dominate the soccer field, and we pray that she delivers the same strength in the most incredible fight of her life. We thank you all for the tremendous display of love and support, mainly because Katy knows we are all there, cheering her on.

Doctors warn that despite slight progress, their daughter’s recovery will be long, arduous and costly. This GoFundMe aims to support the family’s mounting medical expenses and costs associated with an extensive therapy plan to address Katy’s physical, emotional, and cognitive problems related to her accident.
