Support Katy's Fight Against Stage 4 Ewing's Sarcoma
Donation protected
One month ago, our brilliant, beautiful Katy Long was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
In July, a CT scan and an MRI found tumors spreading from her right kidney to her liver and abdominal wall. A biopsy revealed she has Extraosseous Ewing Sarcoma (EES), a rare and aggressive type of cancer that forms tumors in the soft tissue near bones.
Katy’s tough. But the prognosis is gutting. There's only a 10 percent chance she'll be alive in five years.
Those fortunate enough to know her might describe Katy as a Klondike bar: Once you melt through her outer shell of sharp wit and dark humor, you're treated to a soft sweetness underneath. Katy has a warm heart and a generous soul. She is fiercely loyal, introspective, and wholly unexpected. (Plus, she loves ice cream more than anyone you've ever met.)
What's next?
- An echocardiogram.
- A PET scan.
- Within the week, she'll be admitted to The James at OSU to start chemotherapy.
- For the next three months, she'll spend approximately nine days each month in the hospital. Then they'll reevaluate.
Our hope for this GoFundMe is to help Katy fight EES and make her time doing so comfortable and memorable. We intend to apply the funds to:
- treatments to prolong her life and enhance her quality of life;
- travel expenses so her family can stay at her side;
- an oncology therapist;
- a dietician; and
- an "all-terrain" walker to help with short walks down the block.
This goal may grow once we better understand her prognosis and needs. I'll update here as we learn more.
Thank you for your love and your support of our dear Katy.
