https://lorrainesletters17.wixsite.com/lorrainesletters/online-store/PRE-Order-Fighting-for-Kat-p467692694Hi Family and friends, I am Christina, and Kat is one of my closest friends. This is so hard to do and I know Kat would never inconvenience anyone and ask for help.
Kat and I met when we started working together almost 6 years ago, our friendship grew and now she is basically part of my family. A few years ago she was having pain in her leg almost to the point of not being able to walk. She went to the hospital and that’s when she was diagnosed with CUP or cancer of unknown primary origin. Then through bone biopsy, liquid biopsy, and genetic testing, it was finally suggested that it was kidney related and she was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma non clear with Mets of bone cancer. She had surgery to place a rod in her leg to reinforce some of the bone deterioration in her femur. The Drs tried different treatments and pain medication combinations to slow the spread of her cancer but they have never had a clear idea of how to get her into remission. Kat has been on this tough road of some good days and handfuls of bad days, but she has kept her spirits up with the support of her family and friends.
On April 26th Kat was admitted to the ER with complete paralysis or loss of feeling in both legs from the waist down. She laid in the hospital for over two weeks while they did treatment after treatment, wondering if she would ever get the feeling back in her legs, scared she won’t be able to fulfill her dreams of walking down the isle with her Fiancé Elizabeth or simply taking her dogs out for a walk. Everyday she improved and we celebrated all the small wins even if it was centimeters of movement. They determined she had transverse myelitis which is a rare neurological condition in which the spinal cord is inflamed and it only happens in 8% of patients and mostly kids. She has gained more movement in her feet and legs but she has to continue working with physical therapy to strengthen all those muscles again. Until she gets mobility and can fully walk again she will need assistance doing daily tasks such as getting in and out of bed, the shower, and the car. With that comes the necessary medical equipment while she does have medical insurance, not everything is covered.
The reason I have put this together is to help Kat with the financial burden she is faced with. As you all may know, emergency room and hospital bills can be costly, let alone for over 2 weeks worth of treatment and care. As Kat has been navigating these new obstacles at home, she will require new equipment, including: an adjustable bed, wheelchair, ramps, and other requirements that will help her navigate her new normal.
If you have ever crossed paths with Kat you know what a big personality she has and would do anything for anyone in need, so if it’s in your heart and you can help at all it would be so greatly appreciated. There are a few ways you can help, you can either share this post or donate directly.
I also created a special sticker available for pre-order and all proceeds will be given back to Kat
