Katrina's Journey: A Fight for Life, A Call for Support

In August 2024, our world shifted when our beloved friend, Katrina, received life-altering news.
What started as a painful lump in her breast led to a devastating diagnosis on August 20th- Breast Cancer, specifically Pleomorphic Lobular Carcinoma.
Katrina quickly began her medical journey, seeing a surgeon, undergoing MRIs, and a CT scan. Unfortunately, the news wasn’t hopeful— a mastectomy wasn’t an option.
On September 17th, Katrina learned she had Stage 4 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, which had spread to her lymph nodes, bones , pleura around the lung and most recently her other breast. It was aggressive, and the fight was going to be even harder than we imagined.
Chemotherapy began on September 19th, 2024. Despite having had a mammogram in January 2024 that showed no signs of concern, the mass in her breast grew rapidly, and soon, Katrina was in the fight of her life.
Since then, Katrina has been undergoing weekly chemotherapy and has had her lung drained several times. But just recently, she was informed that her treatment options in New Zealand have been exhausted, and there are no more options left for her here.
But there's hope. The next course of treatment, Sacituzumab Govitecan, is available in Australia—but it comes with a huge cost.
In order to receive this life-saving treatment, Katrina will need to relocate back to Australia. This means leaving her partner and their five children, aged 15,15,16,17 and 18 behind in New Zealand, quitting her job, and selling their family home to cover the costs of her treatment and relocation.
Katrina has shown an incredible amount of mental strength, resilience, and positivity throughout this journey. She’s been an inspiration to all of us, radiating love, gratitude, and hope every step of the way.
Now, we are reaching out to the wider community. Katrina and her family need our support more than ever as they face the immense challenge ahead. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help Katrina get the life-saving treatment she needs and make her move to Australia a reality.
Thank you for being a part of Katrina’s journey and for helping her continue to fight.
Radiating love, abundance, and gratitude.
We know this community , Katrina’s community, can make a world of difference.
With love, strength, and hope,
The friends and family of Katrina
