Hi my name is Sebastian, my fiancees name is Kayla, we have 3 cats and they're our children.

We noticed tuesday night that our 11 year old boy, Kato, was refusing to eat or drink. We tried everything to entice him, different treats, different soft foods, tuna juice mixed in with foods but nothing would get him to eat. We thought getting him to drink would be simple as he absolutely loves water directly from the tap, he howls for it to be turned on constantly, but he would only look at it flowing down, and than turn away. He is never one to pass up an opportunity for treats and especially not fresh, direct from tap, water so we began to get really concerned. Upon watching him the next few hours, he was showing signs of lethargy, and he was walking and moving with a bit of a wobble, showing weakness. We examined him all over and noticed he looked like he had some rapid weight loss and his eyes looked sunken in so we tested his skin for dehydration and sure enough he was dehydrated. He was also very clearly uncomfortable and in pain, so we knew we had to take him into the emergency vet immediately.
When they examined him, he was indeed dehydrated and had lost weight but his heart, lungs and all vital organs were working great, so no problems there. They did determine he has moderate dental disease but they couldn't pinpoint his exact pain with touch as he was extremely non-specific but very clearly uncomfortable so they gave us two options. Option 1, we keep him at the vet for 24 hours to get him rehydrated and fed intravenously and they would monitor him, as well as do blood testing, urinalysis, ultrasound and medications in house. Option 2, they would do blood tests, urinalysis, ultrasound, give him subq fluid and send us all home with pain medication and antibiotics, and we monitor him ourselves. They gave us the estimates (option 1: $2513, option 2: $677) and we had to go with option 2, as we had very low funds, although we really did want to have him stay.
His blood tests came back with increased white blood cells, showing an infection and his urinalysis had bacteria, but his ultrasound confirmed no crystals or any blockages present so they diagnosed him with a UTI. They told us to separate him from our other cats to keep a close eye on him and his litter, and that he needs food with his antibiotics or it could cause more problems for him. They gave him the subq fluid and an anti-nausea medication, just in case that was why he wasnt eating, gave us the pain medication and antibiotics and sent us home.

Currently we have him set up in our bedroom with a litter box, fresh water and some watered down dry food, that is all separated from each other as much as is possible. He still refuses to eat and drink on his own so we've had to use a syringe to get water and food into him, so he can hopefully get fully rehydrated and take his antibiotics. We have been giving him the pain meds and antibiotics (syringe feed food before) as prescribed every 12 hours, but we haven't seen much of any improvements from him. He still is dehydrated, although that seems to be improving very slowly, but he continues to refuse to drink or eat himself. He is still using the litter, but very rarely and its only been urine as of this moment. He isn't showing any of the typical signs of pain when using the litter, no howling and no straining, but he is still very uncomfortable and will growl when touched, mostly near his rear, stomach and back. He just continues to lay in one spot, constantly rearranging himself in discomfort. His pain medications are almost out, and he is very clearly still in a lot of pain even with them and we just want him to have some relief.
We want to go back to the vet so we're trying to get some help to cover more testing, medications and a possible stay to get him back to himself. We want to hear his howls for the tap to be turned on, his meow replicating a human "hello" echoing through the house at night. We want to see his zoomies up the stairs and through the house, chasing his sisters off, after he uses the litter and stinks up the whole house. We want to watch him chase the cards we throw to him that makes his eyes light up like when he was just a tiny kitten. We want to feel his sweet, loving head butts and nose kisses. There are so many Katoisms I could mention but not enough time or space to name them all. He is our boy, our little prince and he means so much to us. We miss all his incredibly sweet and loving moments and, of course, even all his unpleasent and diabolical ones. We just want him back to himself and feeling great again, nothing more. So please if you could give anything to help get him out of this misery he's in, it would be more than greatly appreciated!
