Katie’s Twisted Tale
Katie is our fabulous 11 year old daughter who has recently been diagnosed with severe idiopathic scoliosis – an abnormal curvature of the spine.

We are trying to raise funds urgently to pay for her to have spinal surgery called Vertebral Body Tethering (currently not available on the NHS) to preserve her growth and flexibility and ensure she has a good quality of life and a pain-free future. The method currently used by the NHS is very invasive and once performed will restrict her flexibility and growth.
We have applied to a hospital in Philadelphia who actually perform this surgery free of charge, however there are of course costs involved in travelling to the USA for a consultation, the actual surgery and subsequent follow ups. If Katie doesn’t meet the strict criteria there, costs could be as much as £60,000 in either Turkey or Germany.
The hospital in Philadelphia relies completely on donations to be able to perform these surgeries, so we would like to be able to give a little back if we are accepted. As hard as it is to ask for donations, it’s a million times harder to see our daughter in pain and be unable to help. This time I’m afraid, pride has to take a backseat.
We are keen to do actual fundraising events, rather than waiting for donations however we would be so appreciative of any donations, however small. In the meantime, any fundraising ideas would be appreciated, such as clothing sales, sponsored events etc. Please search for our fundraising group on Facebook: Katie’s Twisted Tale
