Katie's Reconstructive Kidney Surgery
Donation protected
Katie has had a tough last couple of months and she is currently on the mend recovering from Robotic Pyeloplasty Surgery (Kidney reconstruction). She was born with ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJ obstruction) which is a condition where a blockage occurs at the junction where the pelvis and ureter meet. Her blockage was caused by a blood vessel. Her UPJ obstruction made it so that urine was unable to pass from the kidney into the ureter, resulting in both urine and pressure building up inside the renal pelvis and causing kidney pain and many kidney infections over the last few years which ultimately led to a decline in her kidney's function and health over time.
She went to urgent care on Thanksgiving Day of 2022 for what she thought was another bad urinary tract infection only to find out she was going to need more tests done at the hospital. A CT Scan and consultation with a urologist helped her find the cause and move toward a solution. She spent two nights in the hospital and underwent surgery. Her ureter and renal pelvis were cut from her kidney, reconstructed, and reattached away from the blood vessel that was causing the blockage.
Her surgery went well however there was a complication causing leakage into her abdomen. This made the beginning of her recovery painful and required both a drain and catheter for longer than expected.
Thankfully, she is doing well and back to work and leading a normal life again! This unexpected health condition and the procedures, tests, medications and appointments that came along with it have taken a financial toll on her. I created this in hopes of getting some funds gathered to help with all of these unforeseen medical expenses.
Anything you can donate helps, thank you all in advance!
