Katie
In June of 2021, Katie felt a lump in her breast. Her doctor did an ultrasound and told her it looked like normal breast tissue. A few days later, Katie found out she was pregnant.
On November 16th, 2021, 9 days before her 26th birthday and 6 months pregnant, Katie had an ultrasound that would change her life forever.
On November 17th 2021 she received the phone call confirming all of our worst fears.
Katie had breast cancer.
In the weeks to follow, her port was placed and chemotherapy had begun.
On February 1st, 2022, our beautiful miracle girl, Isla Dawn, was born via c-section.
Despite being told that the chemo would likely stunt Isla’s growth, this 35 week baby girl came out as developed as a 37 weeker according to her pediatrician.
Praise the Lord!!!
Katie continued chemotherapy infusions while postpartum and after a major surgery (c-section) until her last infusion on May 17, 2022.
On June 22, 2022, Katie underwent a double mastectomy surgery where doctors also removed lymph nodes to biopsy. News came back that the lymph nodes were negative for cancer, which led to Katie being CANCER FREE! Thank you Jesus!
For the next several months, Katie continued oral chemo to aid in keeping the cancer away. Katie finished her last dose of oral chemo in February 2023.
Through all of this, Katie’s medical expenses were covered by friends and strangers through donations and fundraisers.
Fast forward to her next scheduled scan…
On April 5, 2033 Katie’s CT scan showed new spots on her lungs - so that meant a PET scan was next. The PET scan showed more lung nodules and now lymph nodes.
The biopsy of Katie’s lymph nodes confirmed what no one wanted to hear. Cancer.
So a treatment plan begins again…
Katie is due to begin chemo again in a few days.
Katie’s treatment will look a little different this time. Katie may be traveling back and forth from South Carolina to Texas, where she will receive some of her care from the largest cancer center in the US. This will come with many expenses along the way.
If you have ever met Katie in person or on social media, you know what a compassionate, considerate, selfless, and hard working human she is. She loves hard. She forgives. She puts others needs and feelings before her own. She is an amazing wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and best friend. All the while fighting her own battle with cancer and being a new mom, Katie still wanted to serve others. Katie put together chemo bags for other cancer patients to encourage them during their fight with cancer. The bags were filled with various items to aid in comfort and to let others know they are not alone in this fight. A perfect example of her character and desire to help others.
This GoFundMe was created in order to lift some of the burden of medical expenses off of Katie, her husband, and family. Your donation will change her life. If you are unable to contribute, please continue to send your positive words of encouragement and prayers Katie’s way! They mean more than you know.
We pray for peace and healing for Katie and her loved ones. We pray for Katie’s treatment team, and that God will provide them with the right treatment plan to get rid of the cancer for good. We want everyone to know that we appreciate all of the prayers and words of encouragement for our dear friend and her family.
Our girl is strong. She won’t ask for help. So we are asking for her.
