Katie's Chronicles

Kobey and Jocelyn Taylor are a beautiful young couple with two boys, Kane and RJ, and a little girl on the way. Baby Katie has a difficult road ahead of her --- she has been diagnosed with some congenital heart defects. Hypoplastic Left Heart (HLH) Syndrome, Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD), and an Atrioventricular Valve Defect. In layman's terms, multiple parts of her heart have not formed properly in the womb. She will require multiple surgeries throughout her life, the first of which at just a few days old. Katie also has some abnormalities in her GI tract that will need to be addressed after she is born. Jocelyn and Katie travel to Children's Mercy twice a week for close monitoring and are receiving the very best possible care. Baby Katie has a team of doctors dilligently planning the best course of action to take once she arrives. Jocelyn will be induced at Children's Mercy on December 26th (4 weeks early); doctors estimate that they will have a stay of roughly 4-6 months in the NICU before Katie might be well enough to come home. The many trips to Kansas City have already taken a toll on this young family, and financial obligations will continue to rise in the months after Katie is born.
