Katie’s Army #shineon
My name is Katie Gillespie. On the first day of Kindergarten, 30 years ago, two girls with the same name became forever friends. Katie is the closest thing I have to a sister. Not only is Katie a best friend to me and several others, she’s a wife of seven years to husband Miles, daughter, sister, adoring aunt, beloved co-worker, and mother to twin baby girls, Eliza and Olivia, who will celebrate their first birthday on July 27th. Katie is an NC State graduate, a HUGE fan of the Carolina Panthers, lover of BurnBootcamp, and her fitness family. Katie is a light in everyone’s lives. Known for her infectious smile that rarely leaves her face, and her ability to make acquaintances feel as if they’ve known her forever. Katie truly is the most deserving of all life’s joys and celebrations. She is the first person to show up or lend a hand when someone is in need. Now she is the one in need.
Several months ago Katie began to experience some discomfort that over time became increasingly worse. After several doctors visits, and no real change in her pain and discomfort, Katie went to the emergency room. Tests and scans confirmed that Katie has cancer. Unable to determine the origin of her cancer, her diagnosis is called CUP (cancer of unknown primary) . She is three weeks in to an 8 week chemo treatment plan. After finishing chemo, she will receive more scans to determine how the cancer has responded. Her oncology doctors are hopeful and confident that her cancer is treatable and manageable.
Katie is not working at this time. She is focusing on her babies and resting her body, mind and spirit. So many loved ones have reached out to me and asked how to help. They are keeping visitor count low due to her weakened immune system. There are also two babies at home who need as much routine and normalcy as possible. I want to help raise some money to just ease some of the many burdens on their lives right now. Prayer costs nothing and is our most powerful weapon at this time. I ask anyone who happens to read this from the bottom of my heart to keep Katie lifted in prayer. We serve an almighty God who is the ultimate healer. Life can change in a instant.. as Katie’s Army, let’s help her #shineon
