Katie Dembesky Medical Expenses

If you don't already know, cancer is very expensive, even if you have great insurance and a high income. Nick and Katie had to draw upon their savings to pay for three surgeries in six months, countless MRI's, blood work, CT scans and copays. They were saving this money to buy their first home.

On May 26th, Katie Dembesky, a beloved LA Comedy Producer, was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. The good news, she caught it early. On August 5th, she had a full hysterectomy and started hormonal replacement therapy to combat instant menopause.

The bad news, however, is that she has the BRCA2 gene mutation which makes her body a breeding ground for other cancers. On Thursday November 3rd, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy to combat the 80% chance she has of contracting breast cancer within the next year. All the labs came back clear and for now, she is cancer free. It was a rough November, but because Katie is a very bubbly, happy and upbeat person, she was able to persist and recover on schedule. She has handled the last six months with incredible courage and grace, and hopes to return to a remote work schedule in mid-December.

Katie would like to thank the amazing staff at the Disney Family Cancer Center and her team of doctors for guiding us through these procedures.
