Finish Katie and Maggie's Home

Donation protected

We're all heartbroken at the loss of our dear David, who has been a wonderful husband to Jane, and a loving father to Katie and Maggie. As a family, we also really want to see Jane, Katie and Maggie living and thriving in the house that David designed for them.

We have started this funding campaign to help provide a secure future for Katie and Maggie, one where Jane can work to support them without the burden of an unmanageable mortgage.

David and Jane met and married in England, in a small town called Walsden where David was playing cricket. They lived happily there for many years, but their plan was always to move back to Australia, to raise their kids under blue skies.

For David, home always meant Kedron, where he had grown up. On returning a couple of years ago, they bought a run down house near David's old primary school, with the intention of knocking it down and building a home where the girls would grow up.

David was a draftsman and designed the new house from the ground up, with constant input from Jane. It was his labour of love, and he put everything he had into it.

In May last year, the builders were about to start, and David, Jane and the kids moved to a rental a few doors up the street. After lifting boxes all weekend, David felt some soreness that escalated quickly. By the Monday affternoon, he was under the surgeon's knife having a large tumour removed from around his bowel.

The timing couldn't have been worse given the building contract had just been signed. His surgery was just the start of a ten month journey through treatment, and David wasn't able to work even one more day.

He fought and fought, but was up against what his specialist said was one of the most aggressive cancers he has ever seen.

All through his illness, the house slowly took shape. He dreamt of nothing more than getting better and sitting on the back deck around the table with his mates and his family.

But here we are, about six weeks before the new house is finished. Katie's 9 and Maggie is 7, and David hasn't quite made it to host that barbeque he'd been hanging in there for.

Jane and the girls have had the most amazing support from the local community while David's been sick.

It's so important to us that as a family Jane, Katie and Maggie can financially find a way to settle in to the new place, among their friends and the people who will look out for them.

We reckon living in the place David designed for them is the best way for him to live on in the lives of the girls.

Most importantly, with your help, we can reduce the mortgage on this place, so Jane will be able to concentrate on helping the girls get through the toughest time of their lives, and helping them grow up and thrive.

Any help is appreciated. We know the target is high, but any contribution of any size is appreciated.

David has touched a lot of your lives, particularly through his work at Sinclair Knight Merz and Jacobs, and his cricket at Toombul and in Walsden. Please feel free to share this campaign among his friends and colleagues.
