Katie is a high school teacher who was looking forward to another successful year. On the first day of school, she had a grand mal seizure in her calculus class. She was rushed to the hospital and kept overnight.  When MRI results were reported, we found out she has a large brain tumor. Surgery is necessary and is scheduled for September 23rd with an expert neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. 
Katie is a devoted wife and wonderful mother to two small children (Isaac and Kyla who are 7 and 5). She is devastated by having to be separated from them for two weeks to undergo the most frightening experience of her life. Unfortunately, there will be travel expenses, expected and unexpected medical bills and a recovery period that will keep her away from her students for an extended period.  Katie has not taken a sick day in 2 years and will exhaust all the days she has accrued then have to pay for the substitute teacher due to state law.
