Katie Burt Ovarian Cancer Treatment #irunforkt
Donation protected

We live far apart and this pandemic has isolated both of us from each other, and from other friends and family we love. Katie receives support from her four amazing children, Emily, Aaron, Timmy, and Liliya, her wonderful husband, Doug, and his two children Noah and Haley, and our parents, Tim & Lynn, who sold their house in Virginia and moved to Arizona to quarantine with and help her when and where they could. Due to Covid, unless you are quarantined with her, it’s almost impossible to see her due to her compromised immune system. This has presented Katie with an even greater challenge because it has isolated her in a time where being able to experience the presence and love of those who love and support her is needed more than ever.

My sister is a runner,I am a runner, and you could say running is in our blood. Our dad was a runner, his father before him. Running has always been something my sister and I have bonded over, and as with most runners, a way to tell our stories. I had planned for many years to run a big run with my sister, something we could look back on when we were older and brag about. I had always thought of the Zion Traverse as a possibility, which is a 50 mile trek across Zion National Park in Utah, and sadly, every year we’d get pulled in different directions, other adventures, and it didn’t happen. But after talking to her about it, I’ve decided to do it for her. In the native communities near where I live, they often run as a form of prayer, or as a ceremony to honor those who have died or those who need healing. The strong run for the weak, in prayer, and that is what I can do in conjunction with this effort to raise money for my sister, as a way to get more people involved and aware of those struggling with ovarian cancer. I am inviting anyone who wants to, to join me on the run, for a section, or the whole thing. There will be an opportunity to gather in Zion National Park in Utah in October to support my sister and to be a part of this run in whatever way you can. My sister has promised to try and be there, but depending on treatments and schedule, that can’t be guaranteed. If you would like to run with us, a section, or the whole thing, you are more than welcome to join us. If you can’t be present but have a few extra dollars, please consider donating in the weeks and months to come. All donations will go directly to my sister to help her pay her many medical bills, other treatment options that are not covered by insurance, and all the other expenses compiling while she is unable to work.

Ultimately, the run means very little to anyone who doesn’t run, and may seem kind of silly to most people. But for those of us who run, like my sister, who I know would give anything to be able to run with me, it means everything. I want to see my sister healthy and happy and running again, but for now, #irunforkt. Please help if you can and God bless.
