My Mom's Medical Expense Fund

If I could change my story, I would.  I am a private person, I dont like baring my soul to the world.  Unfortunately since I am asking for assistance I think you should know why.

In 1995 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and have been battling silently ever since.  I was 45 years old, married to a terrific husband and two wonderful children. I had gone in for a routine exam and some five months later, I was called by my Doctor's office and told to come in right away. When my husband and I arrived there, we were told that I had cervical cancer.

We traveled from my home state of Florida to Philadelphia to see a "specialist." He explained to us that treatment would involve surgery plus radiation and possible chemotherapy. I had a surgical procedure in Philadelphia for diagnostic as well as therapeutic purposes. That surgery led to ten more surgical procedures to eradicate the disease and over 180 treatments in a hyper-baric chamber as a result of radiation burn.

It was recommended to me that I should travel to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston for a second opinion. That physician opined that a more radical surgery was indicated. I did go on to have a 15-hour procedure called a pelvic exenteration that removed most of the organs in my pelvis. In all, I've had 14 different surgical procedures. My doctors tell me that my case is somewhat of an anomaly and it is ‘a miracle’ that I am walking around.

I am now thirteen and a half years post-operative, i.e. my radical procedure. I've had too numerous to count CT Scans, MRIs, and a plethora of minor less invasive treatments. I am again scheduled for two more surgeries. One is to have stones removed from my neo-bladder (it was necessary to remove my real bladder) and one major procedure -- repair of a large ventral wall hernia. Any surgeries at this point can be life-threatening due to scar tissue in my pelvis and abdomen (as such, two different specialists will attend to my procedure).

We recognize that times are tough for most people right now, either due to underemployment or being in between jobs. Also, and sadly, I'm sure many others have their own medical issues right now. I am asking for a small donation to help pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance, and daily living expenses as I must be in Houston for three weeks pre and post-operatively.

Your thoughts, prayers, and donations will be most appreciated. Thank you in advance and G-d bless you all for your consideration.
