For those of you who know mom and dad, you know that they are retired teachers who love people and love the Lord! This love is what inspired them to move to central Uganda as independent missionaries, where they have been living for 3 years.
1 year ago, mom began developing gastrointestinal issues, which resulted in finding an ulcer, gastritis, and a hernia. She received treatment for those things and began finding some relief. Unfortunately, pain, bloating and discomfort began rearing their ugly head again in late 2022. For the last year, mom hasn't been able to eat well, resulting in her losing an alarming amount of weight.
After a long weekend of severe pain, nausea, heartburn and bloating, mom made the 2-hour journey to Kampala to see a doctor. After receiving a cat scan, they found a tumor blocking her colon.
On Monday, January 16th, mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. Mom and dad, along with Kelsey, travelled that week to Nairobi Hospital to receive treatment and to plan for the next steps. They will remain in Kenya for an indefinite time, as we figure out how to best heal and treat mom's cancer.
This was very unexpected emotionally, physically and financially. The cost of living, accommodations, treatment, transportation and hospital stays are much more than the family has available. We have already paid $5,235 out of pocket, and are expecting to pay around $20,000 more. In Kenya, medical treatment, including surgeries, must be paid in advance. Therefore, having financial support is critical for medical treatment.
As the daughters, friends and family of Bob and Kathy, we have set up this Go Fund Me account to help lift the financial burden and to show love and support for them in a tangible way. We know many of you have been touched by their love and want to show them support in this time of need.
Your prayers and contributions are deeply needed and appreciated.
