Kathy Smiths Medical Fund

Kathy Smith has been so many things to all of us, and personally a very inspirational person to me (her niece/co-worker). Kathy has spent her whole life giving to others in every way possible. Whether that be at work, where she is a LMP providing massage to increase her patients health and body awareness, or even at home where she helps to provide for her husband, daughter, and her all-time one and only very special granddaughter.

On Friday, 11/18/2016, Kathy woke up not feeling well; she was weak on the left side of her body, her leg being severely affected. She pushed herself to go to work. When she got to her office a coworker noticed her struggling to cross the parking lot. He helped her in and had her explain what was going on. Kathy thought she may have had a minor stroke. She figured it was done and over with and she did not want to go to the Dr. for the fear of more medical bills on top of missing paid hours at work. Kathy’s co-worker kindly gave her some money, and her daughter Jennifer came and took her to the ER, as the Dr. had suggested before she even went there.

Kathy is a diabetic and as a result of the MRIs, she has suffered from not one, but THREE minor strokes recently, but didn’t know about the other two. Kathy’s family expenses and paying the bills have always been tight, living paycheck to paycheck, and at times has even had to decide between paying the mortgage payment or electric bill.

And so now with her recent hospital stay, all of the tests and medical bills, even with insurance, the bills are growing fast. With her hospital stay as well as various tests like CT scans and MRIs, as well as the prescribed daily in-home physical therapy, which is not covered by her insurance, and then all of her medical bills now, and the bills coming after January will have to come from out of pocket, there’s just no way she can pay them.

Now Kathy will be out of work for quite some time, there’s no way of knowing when she will be able to come back, it just depends on how fast she can get back to walking again. Without her income, she can’t make the mortgage payment or utilities including electric bill. Our hope is that with this Go Fund Me page we can raise enough money to help Kathy to pay off medical bills as well as help pay her mortgage, and daily living costs during her recovery!

Any amount possible will help her so much, no words or actions could ever express our gratitude! I also know that Kathy is deeply touched and so grateful for everyone’s help on her road to recovery.

On behalf of all of us in Kathy’s family, Thank you SO much for your contributions!
