Kathy Nelson Memorial

Kathleen Marie Sopoci (née Nelson), beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed into heaven on February 18, 2022 at the age of 61. She was born on September 12, 1960 in Chicago, IL and was a 1978 graduate of Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream, IL. Kathy (Kat) was a breast cancer survivor, an avid music lover, and a self-proclaimed social butterfly. She was a free spirit who loved animals and helping others, especially the elderly. Kathy enjoyed supporting veterans and being a Nana to her two granddaughters. She was well-known for her colorful personality and her indomitable spirit.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Shoun Thomas Devine. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Marie Devine; her grandchildren, Lyla Caroline Devine and Vyolet Zariah Rubio Devine; her sister, Deborah Bergmann; her brothers Mark and Matthew Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. 

Friends and family are invited to say their final goodbyes on Saturday, March 26th from 10am to 12pm at Cornerstone Faith Community Church in Bloomingdale, IL. Internment services will be privately held on Monday, March 28th at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations. Kathy did not have any money or insurance, so every little bit helps. Our family greatly appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
