As many of you know, Kathy Gran our ASJ sister and fellow alumni 1989, was diagnosed with breast cancer this past spring. She had been living upstate New York near Lake Placid for many years, and relocated to Florida with hopes of a better life. She had just begun the process of applying for RN jobs in hospitals, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kathy does not have health insurance but through the health department they were able to secure Medicaid to cover her treatment.

When she first moved to Florida, she had secured a part time home  health care job. This was the plan until she was able to get a full time job in a hospital. She had a port put in in this past spring and recently finished 16 weeks of chemotherapy. On October 21st she will be having her bilateral mastectomy. Once she is healed, which can take six to eight weeks, she will start radiation. Reconstructive surgery will begin after that sometime next year. She wont be able to secure a full-time job with benefits and health insurance until probably next fall at best. She also will not be able to work her current part-time job, due to the recovery process.

Of course every day is filled with the stress and anxiety of covering living expenses. We decided to start a GoFundMe account to help support her in this difficult time. ❤️
