Kathy Gilbrook Cancer Relief Fund

Hi everyone, my name is Patrick Gilbrook, Kathy’s son. Over this past year my mother has been battling a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor, or GIST. This is a rare form of cancer that was found within her small intestine. For those who know my Mother she is a kind and warm person who loves to serve the community of Hull working at the local Dunkin’ Donuts. When she began this process she was treated for a GI bleed at the hospital, not knowing that after extensive testing and imaging she would be diagnosed with cancer in late October of 2023.

Since her diagnosis, she’s been undergoing intense chemotherapy which has caused her to lose her appetite and be a lot less mobile than her usual self. In February of this year, she underwent surgery to have the tumor removed. Since then, she has been slowly recovering and continues her chemotherapy treatment, which is likely to continue for the foreseeable future due to the fact that this rare cancer has a very high likelihood of coming back.

My family and I, along with her care team at Dana Farber, continue to provide her with the best care and support that we can. With her unable to work, no longer receiving PFML benefits after 20 weeks, and awaiting a disability claim, she’s finding it challenging to make ends meet financially. I am creating this Go Fund Me for her to help supplement the cost of living and her bills such as health insurance, rent, car insurance, and groceries. My hope is that she does not have to bear the burden of financial stressors while focusing on getting better, and that she can have some comfort and relief with all that she has gone through.
