Kathy fights back! Her battle to beat Lukemia
Donation protected
The Story:
On December 31, 2018 Kathy was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Lukemia. She was told she needed to begin treatment immediately. This cancer is incredibly aggressive. Traditional chemotherapy hasn't been effective with her type of cancer. She will begin a clinical trial chemotherapy tomorrow, January 10.
Kathy's wish was to be treated in NYS where her family lives. Upon discharge from the hospital, she dropped everything at her home and Tennessee and was admitted to Roswell Park Hospital in Buffalo within 24 hours. She plans to stay in NYS permanently.
What she needs:
Kathy needs to have her home in Tennessee packed and moved here to Buffalo. She has been told she will be in the hospital for at least 6 weeks. We are hoping to raise enough money to pay for packers, movers and storage.
To further complicate things:
Kathy is a federal employee. Due to the government shutdown she is currently not getting a paycheck.
She is out of sick days and unable to receive donated leave from other employees because of the shutdown.
In addition, she has been told that she may be unable to apply for disability until the government re-opens.
The "why":
Kathy is an amazing person who always puts her family and friends first. She is too humble to ask for help. I'm hoping that through raising money, we can give her a chance to focus on healing.
