Kathy Beem’s Service

Hi, I’m Jimmy Beem and I’m fundraising for my mother, Kathy Beem’s funeral service and additional expenses associated with her fight with lung disease.

It’s not easy for me to be writing this, but over the last few days I’ve felt extremely overwhelmed with the many tasks in front of me. Being my mother’s only child, I quickly gained many responsibilities and expenses that I didn’t have last week.

I appreciate you even taking the time to read this! I would like to thank you in advance for your consideration!

Katherine “Kathy” Beem, 64, of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at UnityPoint – Health Marshalltown under the care of UnityPoint Hospice. Kathy’s family would like to extend their deep gratitude toward the entire staff at UnityPoint Health and Hospice for their exceptional care of Kathy.

Born Katherine Jo Hagen on April 18, 1957 in Waterloo, she was the daughter of Kenneth “Buzz” and Joy (Welsh) Hagen. Kathy and her three siblings grew up in Marshalltown, where she attended Marshalltown High School. Kathy was blessed with her only son, Jimmy, who meant the world to her. In addition to being an excellent mom, Kathy worked several jobs over the years, her favorite as the “Sub Lady” at Casey’s on Lincoln Way. In her free time, Kathy enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening, antiquing, and cooking, especially her famous meatloaf. She loved watching Westerns and Yellowstone and fried chicken from Pizza Ranch. Known for her beautiful dark hair and contagious smile, she had a way of making friends easily. Kathy was very family-oriented, affectionate and deeply concerned for the well-being of everyone she knew and loved. She always stood up for what was right.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved son, Jimmy Beem; her brothers: Ken (Sally) Hagen and Steve Hagen; several nieces and nephews and many friends, including a special thanks to her neighbors: Dan and Amy and Russ and Teresa and her friends: Laura, Sammy and Jason Burns and Robbin Christensen for their hearts and care of Kathy.

In death, she is reunited with her parents, Buzz and Joy; her sister, Carolyn Perry and her stepfather, Marv Cohen.
