Simon and Kathy are my neighbors. They are wonderful people. They were foster parents for their grand kids and are always giving home made goodies or veggies from their garden to neighbors. When Covid first arrived Kathy made masks for neighbors and gave them out for free! She makes excellent zucchini bread and the best chicken tortilla soup I have ever had!
Simon is a cancer survivor and has been undergoing dialysis treatment since I have known them. Last week we thought he had a stroke and Kathy had to spend all of their savings in order to have a ramp installed at their home. Simon is a survivor though. He is expected to return home in the next 10 days.
Unfortunately it was his cancer had come back so now he has to undergo dialysis and radiation treatment three days a week. That will be followed by chemotherapy. He has beat it in the past and we believe he can do it again! But they need our help.
They need to make some modifications to their home so that Simon can return home and be able to live independently, with Kathy's help. We do not want to see him have to go to a nursing home to rehabilitate especially in the days of Covid. Making this happen could literally mean the difference between life and death.
My husband and daughters are going to donate their time to make the changes to the home and we have already gathered some materials but we are about $2000.00 short in being able to make the changes needed to enable Simon to come home. We need to buy a wheel chair smaller than what their insurance will pay for so that Simon can use the bathroom. We need to make modifications to the shower and add strong stable handles throughout the home to enable Simon to see to his daily needs. We need to add some reinforcements to some areas of the home in order to install the sturdy handles. Please open your hearts and your wallets and give whatever you can! Thank you!
