Kathryn and her family

Hello, my name is Destiny Enns and I'm not usually one to reach out for help but today I am asking on behalf of my little sister.

I am fundraising for my sister and her family to help them with the expenses both expected and unexpected as they navigate the coming weeks or months.

As a child, my sister Kathryn was diagnosed with a condition that causes life threatening heart arrhythmias and had an ICD implanted at the age of 12 (a heart monitor that can shock her heart back to normal when needed).

After years of postponing, they finally booked her a surgery to remove the old children's sized ICD with an adult version. My sister Kathryn and her partner Rick traveled from Moose Jaw to Calgary for the routine procedure, leaving their 2 children, Lincoln and Katrina, back home with grandma. Kathryn was admitted on January 29th for preoperative tests and went in for the surgery on January 31st. The surgeon informed us that the surgery would take about 6 hours but as the 8 hour mark came, dread started creeping in. Finally, the surgeon came out and explained there complication during her procedure and she had needed extensive resuscitation. They worked hard to stabilize her and resolve the bleeding but she needed to be ventilated and placed into a medically induced coma. My sister needed 19 units of blood and 10 minutes of CPR before they were able to stabilize her condition. In the following days she had to have multiple procedures as a result of the initial complications. On Monday, February 3rd, they were finally ready to attempt to take her out of the coma but we're unsuccessful and had to resedate her as the process was too stressful on her body. It was another full week, despite multiple attempts, before her medical team was able to finally reduce the sedation and my sister squeezed the nurse's hand on February 10th.

My sister is a fighter, always has been but our family has been through a lot in the last few years with the 2022 accidental drowning of our youngest brother, Jordan and the death of our mother this passed summer due to her struggle to cope with that same loss.

Despite our losses, my heart has overflowed with the love and support of both our loved ones and strangers alike.
Over the last few years, I have heard the phrase "If there is anything, I can do to help, please just ask" so many more times than I could ever count.

We are hoping to raise enough money to help with the financial burden that they'll be facing during an already difficult time... For the cost of Rick staying in Calgary and travel expenses that come with that, childcare needs for their kids back home, and Kathryn's rehabilitation from both the original operation, the subsequent ones to stabilize the complications, and then the surgery for the placement of her new ICD which she will still need. As well as, potentially to assist with her medical transport back to Saskatchewan once she is stable enough to travel so that she can be within the reach of her family.

Thank you everyone in advance for your support. It is so very much appreciated.
