Prayers & Support for Kathy Waters

Donation protected
Our mother, Kathy Waters, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma nine years ago, right after she turned “Fabulous Fifty.”  Throughout her journey, though there have been many obstacles and challenges, Kathy has always fought through with a smile on her face and a kindness to those around her that she is so known for.

This past year has been particularly difficult for Kathy.  She had negative reactions to medication, frequent changes of chemotherapy, caught a severe stomach bug, a sinus infection,  and generally, just has not been feeling quite like her Mom Waters/Grammy self.

On Monday, March 7th, Kathy's daughter, Christina, found her at home having difficult time breathing and staying conscious. She was immediately taken to the emergency room at Mass General. Her blood pressure and oxygen levels were dangerously low, and she was fighting severe pneumonia infection in both lungs, along with all the complexities of her multiple myeloma diagnosis.

She was moved to the Intensive Care Unit and put under where she received a variety of life saving measures including medical induced coma with a breathing tube and drugs to help with the pneumonia, blood pressure, oxygen, pain and discomfort, and compromised kidney function. We are hopeful the diminished kidney function is directly related to this episode and will improve, but only time will tell.

After 5 touchy days in intensive care, Kathy's condition has improved enough that she is breathing on her own and was stable enough to be removed from the breathing tube and the induced sedation.   She is expected to stay in the hospital for at-least the next month, and then may have to be transported to a rehab facility.  Though her progress back from her induced coma is amazing, she has a long way to go.

We have received countless well wishes, prayers, and love from so many.  They have all been tremendously helpful and supportive and we thank you.

Many have asked if there is anything they can do to help Kathy.  Given how the past year has been tough for her; she is now completely unable to work.  Any direct financial help to alleviate these burdens for her in the short term would be extremely helpful.  Any little bit will help, and we appreciate every cent, kind word, and prayer from the bottom of our hearts.

Love,
Chrissy, Scott, Billy, Stephanie, and Mike
