" Hello, my name is Katharina. I am 33 years old and I live in beautiful Vienna, where I work as a teacher — a profession I love deeply. I am passionate about sharing knowledge and giving people something meaningful for their lives.
My job demands a lot from me every single day, including physically. And that is becoming increasingly difficult, because there is something about me that you cannot see:
Multiple Sclerosis.
I was only 22 years old. I had a normal life and was just about to move to Italy.
Then MS struck. Suddenly. Without warning.
At 22, I watched my once-normal life fall apart. From that moment on, my thoughts were consumed by fear: a wheelchair, becoming dependent on care, losing my job, losing one ability after another. A previously healthy body slowly destroying itself for no apparent reason.
Would I still be able to study?
Work?
Live independently?
Find a partner?
Have children?
MS is cruel — it takes everything.
In the years after my diagnosis, I suffered numerous relapses. Each one was a painful reminder that MS can take everything, anytime, anywhere, without warning.
Pain.
Visual disturbances.
Temporary complete blindness in one eye.
Difficulty walking.
Severe dizziness.
Losing sensation in my hands and legs.
Relentless pain.
Every relapse tore me out of my life — and it still does. The fear is always there, like a sleeping monster, waiting to attack.
This year has been especially hard. I have had multiple relapses. My most recent one, in October, drastically reduced my ability to walk. Suddenly, walking — something everyone around me does without thinking — became a daily struggle. Every single day, I am reminded that something so “simple” is not simple at all.
Why I am asking for your help
There is a treatment that offers hope: HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation).
HSCT is an intensive therapy that aims to stop MS by “resetting” the immune system — the part of my body that is attacking my own nervous system. For many patients, HSCT has been shown to significantly slow down or even halt disease progression.
However, this treatment is not covered by public healthcare in my country and must be paid for privately. The costs are overwhelming and far beyond what I can manage on my own.
I am not asking for a cure.
I am asking for a chance.
A chance to stop this disease from taking more.
A chance to keep walking.
A chance to keep teaching.
A chance to live my life with dignity and independence.
Your donation — no matter the amount — brings me one step closer to this treatment and to a future where MS no longer controls every decision, every movement, every dream.
Thank you for reading my story.
Thank you for your compassion.
And thank you for giving me hope "
