Katherine's Ski Accident Recovery
My name is Samantha and I am setting up this fundraiser for my mom, Katherine. Katherine is a very active person and works full-time as a nurse and serves in the Air Force reserves. Katherine has also deployed to Afghanistan multiple times and she has deployed to New York to serve as a nurse during the height of first waves of Covid-19. When she is not taking care of others, she loves to ski, mountain bike, run, and backpack. Katherine has also recently become a first-time grandma with another grandchild on the way.
On June 12th, 2021, Katherine was in a traumatic snow ski accident near her home in the Salt Lake City area. She required an emergency search and rescue by helicopter, 3 surgeries, multiple blood transfusions, and some occupational therapy and physical therapy to safely discharge home to recovery. Katherine required a left elbow and knee surgery, and a left total-hip-replacement. Fortunately, Katherine is expected to be able to ski and run again when her injuries are fully healed.
Because of this accident, Katherine is unable to work for the next 4-6 months as she is home working on her rehabilitation and recovery. She lives alone in her own home and will need financial support for her medical expenses and living expenses while she is unable to work. Katherine normally spends her time taking care of other people and she does not have close family near her home to care for her. I made this GoFundMe page so that her friends and family could contribute any amount they would like to towards her recovery.
