Katherine's Multiple Myeloma Journey
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
Let me introduce you my neck brace, who I have nicknamed Bettie Cage. She has been my constant companion since March 21, when I received a devastating diagnosis of multiple myeloma. What I had thought was only back pain caused by stress suddenly revealed itself to be an incurable blood cancer.
Multiple myeloma is a rare cancer of the plasma cells, and it has already wreaked havoc on my body, weakening my bones, compromising my immunity, and disrupting every aspect of my life.
On April 24, I am scheduled to undergo a crucial spine surgery to stabilize my crushed T1 vertebra, which is currently endangering my spinal cord. During the invasive 3-hour procedure I will have multiple titanium rods inserted, as well as an expandable titanium “cage” to replace the structure of the crushed vertebra. Recovery from the surgery will take several months.
This journey is not just about physical recovery; it's about reclaiming my life and appreciating every moment with my teenage daughter Vivian. As a single mother, the road ahead is fraught with emotional and financial challenges.
The anticipated costs of surgery, chemotherapy, and stem cell transplant are staggering, and I will need to be on disability for quite some time. The additional expenses add to the burden and stress of an already difficult situation.
Your generosity and support can make an enormous difference, directly contributing to covering expenses associated with my treatment and recovery. From medical bills to necessary equipment in my home like air purifiers, every dollar will help alleviate the financial strain and allow me to focus on healing and spending precious time with Vivian.
Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a profound difference in my life and the life of my daughter.
