Katherine's Reconstructive Back Surgery
Donation protected
I am Katherine's sister, Lindsay, and creating this go fund me on her behalf.
Katherine grew up with undiagnosed scoliosis despite several assessments and doctor visits. As a teenager, Katherine went to the doctor for various complaints about her legs and rib cage as they became uneven and asymmetrical. Eventually, after seeing multiple doctors and being referred to back and spinal specialists, Katherine was diagnosed with advanced scoliosis as an adult, only 25 years old. One of Katherine's lumbar vertebrae has a birth defect that caused her scoliosis and unfortunately was never diagnosed properly at an age that would have made treatment easier. The top of her spine now curves forward causing Katherine to hunch over. Additionally, her spine twists from the base upward and forms the shape of an "S", this causes one of her hips to sit much higher than the other.
Katherine now lives in intense chronic pain, she has numbness that comes and goes, and her shoulder and jaw have begun to dislocate do to her spinal deformation. Katherine has received chiropractic care and treatment since her diagnosis, but her condition has continued to worsen significantly and now requires significant surgical intervention.
The specialist that has now properly diagnosed Katherine, has said that she will need intensive reconstructive spinal surgery. If she does not undergo this surgery there is a strong possibility that she will sustain major organ damage in just a few years. The surgery will require the surgeon to break her spine in several places, straighten it with two large metal rods, and fuse multiple vertebrae together. She will be on strict bedrest immediately following the surgery, and then will require weeks of physical therapy before returning to work. She will be out of work for at least 2 months.
Katherine works hard to provide for her daughter, Emma. She will need help with her mortgage, bills, groceries, and daycare as she recovers. In order for Katherine to have this surgery, and to help ease the financial and emotional stress of this situation on her and her family, I am asking for donations, prayers, and love for my sister. This money will greatly help Katherine and her family during this time and make this surgery possible. Katherine is a very loved daughter, mother, sister, friend, and fiancé. Any prayers and donations are greatly appreciated.
