Katherine Saavedra Kendall Soulet was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on October 4, 2022 at the age of 74. When you think of the quote “to know her is to love her,” Kathy comes to mind.
Kathy was born to Ruben and Lorraine Saavedra on April 5, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She grew up in a large, loving family as the oldest child of 2 sisters and 5 brothers; Emma, Ruben (Madelyn), Richard (Debbie), Gladys (John), Ernest (Collette), Luke, Robert (Jan). After graduating from Francis T. Nicholls High School, she had three beautiful children whom she adored: Shelly, Shelby and Sherry. Kathy was a loving and caring woman, always giving her time to others, and she incorporated these traits into every aspect of her life.
On July 16, 2022, Kathy married the love of her life, Calvin Soulet. Although their time together was short, the love between the two of them was impactful and unforgettable. Calvin put a smile on Kathy’s face that her family had never seen before. Their love was genuine and kind; the type of love you aspire to have. Kathy had finally found her true match and soulmate.
In her free time, you could find Kathy watching basketball, spending time with her one and only, Trent, or hitting the casinos on the coast with Calvin. Kathy never met a stranger and loved meeting new people. She was always kind, graceful, respectful and smiling.
She is survived by her loving husband Calvin Soulet; two children Shelby Kendall V (Karen) and Sherry Courtade; her four step children, Racquel Paplovich (John), Chantelle Rohr (Chris), Rebecca Doll (Scott) and Calvin Soulet (Laura); Grandchildren, Megan (Charlie), Trisha, Kaylin (Andy), Stephanie (Adrian), Sophia (Mike), Colin (Megan), Alyssa, Aubrey, Mallory, Jacob, Scotlyn, Nadia, Jared and Asher; Great grandchildren, Gavin, Trent, Emma, Aubrey, Fabian, Amelia, Rose and Luna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and daughter, Shelly.
Per Kathy’s wishes, there will be a celebration of life on Tuesday October 11, 2022 from 11am - 3pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Chalmette. The address is 2107 Paris Road Chalmette, LA 70043. All are welcome to attend!
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the gofundme listed to start a college fund for Trent, the great-grandson Kathy had custody of.
