Why is Katherine Woods going abroad?
I am going to Argentina this upcoming summer to study abroad! I am very excited for this opportunity, considering I never thought going abroad during college would be possible. I am looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and traveling internationally, being immersed into a new culture, and meeting new people — those in Argentina and other LSU students, all while studying and earning credits that will go towards my degree!
During my time in Argentina, I will be able to improve my language skills, taking Spanish courses as well as immersing myself into an environment of native Spanish-speakers. I am excited to not only learn through lecture, but by experience and interactions with others. Through this program, I will have the opportunity to gain new perspectives on the global community and improve my human understanding.
Alongside a group of LSU students, I will be living in the beautiful city of Córdoba for a month, staying with a host family, and studying on the UNC (Universidad Nacional de Códoba) campus. When we are not studying hard for school, we will be traveling throughout the country! While in Córdoba, a German town, we will get to try new foods and tour the mountains at/near La Cumbrecita. We will also spend time in Buenos Aires, where we will take a city tour, visit the neighborhood of Recoleta and different museums. Last but not least, we will visit the city of Mendoza, where we will see the Andes in winter, go hiking, and tour different wineries. Some other things I will get to do while in Argentina include but are not limited to horseback riding, visiting the Córdoba cathedral, go to the Teatro Colón (opera house), and have a fancy dinner night with tango. I am truly so excited for this amazing opportunity to study and experience the trip of a lifetime!
