The reason for him wanting to make Katherine is to speak about the effects that Grief can have on a person’s mental health. He wants to show what someone who isn’t helped or is troubled could go through and what levels of self-destructive Behaviour one would push themselves to do.

While not shown as the most likely scenario, he wanted to give it something that would make it stand out from just a normal showing of someone dealing with grief.
