Support Katharina and Jhon in the Philippines
Help support Katharina and Jhon, who were living in the shadows of modern slavery near the theming factories in Angeles City, Philippines, that supply the international leisure and entertainment industry.
In my personal opinion, while being on site personally on a frequent basis, I have observed that workers may endure conditions resembling modern slavery. As a result, children in the region are left to struggle with access to education, healthcare, food, and shelter.
Your donation can help break the cycle of suffering and give these children a real chance to build a better future.
Katharina and Jhon, whom I know personally, need support with access to education, healthcare, food, and shelter.
My grandfather, Jakob "Köbes" Angenvoort, opened his home in the Lower Rhine Valley, Germany, to people who had lost everything after World War II. Inspired by that legacy, and acting upon my own convictions, I support children in need—working to strengthen their living conditions through long-term programs focused on education, healthcare, food, and shelter.
I took on sponsorship for Katharina, a 10-year-old girl in the Philippines, and Jhon, a 12-year-old boy. I know them personally, stay in regular contact, and send care packages. I met them on the streets in 2018 and 2019 and decided to support them both in their journey toward a better life.
Jhon is currently at primary school as one of the top students in his class and will move on to the next level, changing schools next year. Katharina is currently attending primary school and is working hard to become a strong student as well. Our goal is to help them eventually build their own livelihoods and create a better future—but there are real challenges along the way.
Katharina needs another eye consultation so her vision can be corrected and both eyes can align properly. She also requires dental treatment to support the alignment of her adult teeth. Jhon needs school materials and dental care, and his family’s home is still in need of repairs to the doors.
Recently, we were able to repair the roof, which was an important step. Thank you to everyone who donated to help make this possible!
His mother, Anabelle, also runs a small business to support the family. Even so, these are just the basics for a decent life—including being able to afford enough rice to eat.
