My sister Kathryn who is 37 was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Obviously this is huge life changing experience for her and our family. We are launching this for anyone who is willing and able to help Kathryn, financially, through this process.

Kathryn was diagnosed with Stage 2B Breast Cancer, Her2+ which is only 5% of Breast Cancer diagnosis. Her2+ is a more aggressive form of cancer and actually 10 years ago the survival rate was much lower because there were no drugs to specifically treat her2+ breast cancer. What’s even more crazy is that Breast cancer doesn’t run in our family and she has no genetic markers for it either. The doctors have summed it up to bad luck! She will have to be on 2 different medications for her specific type of cancer for one year, along with 6 rounds of chemo every three weeks. This will be followed by a left breast mastectomy and radiation and reconstruction of the left breast.
She has two masses as well as calcifications, all of which are cancerous and her cancer unfortunately has also made its way into her axillary lymph nodes. But thankfully it hasn’t spread further than that.
As many of you know Kathryn is a hard worker. She usually has two jobs and works a ton. So this is extremely difficult for her to not be able to provide for herself or to help her son who recently finished college and turned 21. Now some people do work during treatment however due to working in a restaurant, she is unable to work during treatment for several reasons. Most importantly her immune system is compromised and in a restaurant there is a lot of exposure to people and germs. She will be out of work for at least the rest of the year and most likely into the next.
I understand everyone has a story and everyone has trials and hurdles so even if you aren’t able to contribute financially, hopefully you can share her story so it can reach as many people as possible.
We will be sure to keep everyone updated on this page as well as a Facebook page started for friends and family who specifically want to follow Kat’s cancer treatment.
