Meet Kate.
She is a foodie. She is a friend. She is a fighter. She is my baby girl.
Some of you reading this know every detail, some of you know pieces of what's going on, and some of you may never have heard her name before, let alone know her diagnosis.
Her name is Katelyn Marie Perigard (Kate). She is my youngest daughter, my warrior princess, and in April 2014 she was diagnosed with Stage 3B Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Her father and I are doing our best to help her get the care and life she deserves, but we have decided to reach out to help our daughter’s future; a future with children and a future unburdened by thousands of dollars in medical debt.
We need your help.
When Kate was diagnosed, she had several cancerous lymph nodes, including a large mass in her chest. Her situation was critical and she needed to start treatment immediately. There was no time to even think about her future fertility. Once she finished her chemotherapy, she had a PET scan to see if any cancer remained. Despite an early response to the treatment, she still has cancerous activity within the mass in her chest. She now needs a much more aggressive treatment plan involving a more intense chemotherapy regimen followed by a stem cell transplant and then finally, radiation. These treatments will more than likely render Kate sterile.
Nobody, especially a 24-year old woman whose life is really just starting, should ever have to face cancer and infertility.
There is a very short window of opportunity to pursue fertility options before she begins this second round of cancer treatment. She needs to start fertility treatment immediately, but the fertility doctor requires the payment up front. The fertility treatment is not covered by insurance at all and will cost $7,000 - $10,000. Through her savings, our savings, and the help of Kate's sister, we have managed to get by up until now. It’s likely she will be unable to work for anywhere from six months to a year after her treatments. During this time she will have growing medical bills, student loan payments, car payments, insurance payments and other bills to pay, which are impossible without income.
Kate truly is my warrior princess. Her determination and optimism have never wavered. It's a testament to her character that she has been the rock for our family throughout this fight. We ask that you make any donation you can towards Kate's future and that of her future children.
Every little bit helps ease this financial burden so Kate can focus on healing and recovery and get back to cooking, laughing, and living her life to the fullest. Prayers and well wishes are equally appreciated. There couldn't be a more deserving young woman, my baby, with a more deserving cause. Your support and generosity means more than we could ever hope to express.

"Whatever you are physically...male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy - all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside." Cassandra Clare
