To my community:

In February 2024, I sprained my ankle at work. After a couple of months of continuing to dance on it, I was fully taken out of work. A long process of the American medical/work comp system, I’m finally getting surgery on August 7th! While I am SO looking forward to starting on a path to healing and being able to dance at 100% again, this past year and a half has been financially difficult.

Some of you know that Noah has been out of work due to a neck injury for over two and a half years. They are going to be having surgery (hopefully) soon after mine (again with the American medical/work comp systems).

We’ve been making it work and taking side jobs where we can! I’ve been babysitting, editing, choreographing, etc., to fill in the income gap and pay the bills. We are currently taking photos of all the items in the house that we are selling to help us out! Look out for those posts soon! Clothes, accessories, collectibles, pins, etc.! But once surgery happens next month, I’m going to be unable to work for a few months. As many people are, we’ve been living paycheck to not-quite-the-next paycheck, and this pause in work is not going to be able to fill that gap for a bit.

That’s why I’m here, humbly asking my community for support. I know that this time is rough for everyone! LA and the country as a whole are going through it. If you have $5 to spare, I would be eternally grateful! If you don’t, girl same, no worries! Someday we will be able to fill other people’s GoFundMe’s and pay it forward.

Here are some of the things I am going to need help with for my recovery:

- Boarding for Butter during the post-surgery recovery
- Care for Butter (food, treats, baths, etc.)
- A manual scooter for mobility, as Liberty Mutual won’t cover the cost
- My bills (electric, car payment, car registration, health insurance, etc.)
- Groceries for me to pre-prep food and freeze it for easy post-surgery meals
- My gym/trainer membership fee to keep the rest of my body strong while I do PT on my ankle
- Chiropractic care, outside of my ankle (no longer covered by my insurance)
- Any unforeseen costs of recovery

I’ve spent a lot of time debating if it was okay for me to make this GoFundMe. Lots of tears, lots of feelings about not being able to support my family, lots of deep breaths. Each time I come back to the grounding knowledge that my community is a supportive one, not monetarily, but energetically, emotionally, and physically! Thank you for reading all of this. Thank you for taking the time to share it if you can! Thank you for being you and building community with me!

Much love,
Kate
