Kate's Pain Free Peanut Surgery Fund

Hi, I'm Jessica, Kate's mom and we are deep in our journey to help Kate recover from several rare, debilitating disorders. Since Kate was about 3, she has struggled with many health issues. Around the age of 13, Kate's health started to deteriorate even further. Eating became very difficult because of extreme pain, nausea and bowel dysfunction. Over several years we attempted to find out what was causing these issues which resulted in Kate being misdiagnosed with a range of issues including IBS and eating disorders.

This past year we relocated from Canada to Arizona to be closer to family and to have access to more specialists who can help Kate. Last year, she was hospitalized 7 times and spent 100 days inpatient. We finally got diagnoses of SMAS (Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome), Colonic Dysmotility and Neurogenic MALS (Median Arterial Ligament Syndrome). We are conservatively treating the SMAS and Dysmotility with non-surgical options (at this time), but the MALS can only be corrected by surgery.

We are incredibly blessed to have received a surgical date for February 1st and are so excited to finally be able to get Kate out of pain. That is the main symptom of MALS and we truly believe that by alleviating the 24-hour-a-day extreme pain, we will get an amazing recovery in all of her other issues as well.

All of this medical treatment comes with hefty out-of-pocket costs. Between out-of-network care, copays and travel expenses to specialists, we humbly thought it was time to reach out for a little extra assistance. This GoFundMe is intended to help with the significant expenses that insurance won’t cover so that we can focus on Kate's recovery.

We have a long road still ahead but are looking forward to Kate getting back the things she loves like volleyball, piano, the outdoors and University.
