Kate’s Journey to a Master’s in Social Work

Hello everyone, I'm Kate! I never imagined I’d be here, asking for help, but I’ve learned that staying silent doesn’t build a future.

Earning my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology was a huge milestone for me. It came after years of learning, growing, and pushing through moments of uncertainty when the future didn’t feel clear. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, unsure of myself, and exhausted, especially being a first generation college student, but I kept going. That journey taught me resilience, self reflection, and the importance of mental health, not just academically, but personally.

Mental health became more than a field of study for me. It became something I deeply cared about. Many people struggle quietly, carry emotional weight alone, and don’t always have access to support or understanding. I realized how powerful it can be when someone feels seen, heard, and supported, and that’s the kind of impact I want to make.

My goal is to earn my Master’s in Clinical Social Work so I can work directly with individuals, children, and families, helping them through difficult moments and building stability and healing in their lives. This degree is the next step in a path I've been working hard to build.

Seeing a very close family member have a mental breakdown had a big impact on my life. It was hard to see someone known to be strong and one of the sweetest people I know suddenly go through something so major, and their life had completely changed. That experience definitely made me the person that I am today. It taught me how rapidly life can change and how severe mental health problems can be. As I learned more and grew as a person, this made me want to learn deeply about psychology and mental health. I realized that I didn't just want to understand mental health, I also wanted to help people through it. That is why I decided to continue my education towards a Master's degree in Social Work so that I could work as a therapist/clinical social worker one day. I feel that the values of social work go greatly with who I am as a person and the impact I want to bring to the world around me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and support my journey. Any donation, no matter the size, truly means so much and is deeply appreciated. Even sharing this page or offering encouragement makes a real difference. I’m very grateful for every bit of support as I continue working toward this goal.
